This fall, our team added two sets of data layers to The Texas Freedom Colonies Atlas: U.S. Congressional Districts and Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) projects. With the information from these layers, descendants can make plans to protect and preserve settlement cultural assets and natural features. The layers are accompanied by digital guidebooks with additional information, resources, and instructions on accessing the layers in the Atlas.
The U.S. Congressional Districts set shows the lines of Texas’ U.S. House of Representatives districts before and after the redistricting initiative that took place in August 2025. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) projects set shows upcoming transportation projects about which stakeholders can submit comments.
Interested in exploring these layers? Check out the guidebooks on The Texas Freedom Colonies website under “Descendant & Researcher Resources,” and then head to the Atlas to see them for yourself. Additional data layers are in the works, so keep an eye on The Texas Freedom Colonies Project Instagram and Facebook accounts for updates!
