In its first round, OPI supported eight transformative projects that remind us preservation is as much about imagination as it is about memory, rooted in land, legacy, and love. Our current pilots and grantees are mobilizing grant funds to host trail rides, Freedom Colony tours, documentary premieres, advocate for disability access at historic and cultural sites, celebrate Black ecologies, stage play readings, and record oral environmental histories. Our call for Round 2 grant applications begins this fall.

In addition to grantee support, the staff has led a working group to develop a web presence for the work and is planning a Spring symposium on the relationship between data and place sovereignty.
