CCL Completes Strategy Report for Montpelier Descendants Committee

This February, the Center for Cultural Landscapes concluded a year-long collaboration with the Montpelier Descendants Committee (MDC), supporting their Arc of Enslaved Communities initiative. Our team developed a Commemorative Landscape Engagement Strategy report, which Dr. Roberts had the honor of presenting at the Orange County African American Historical Society’s Annual Meeting this spring. in addition to the report, the MDC hosts significant programming in the region and at Montpelier, including the Community Archaeology Lab at Montpelier (CALM), opening on May 9, and the Archaeology and Oral History Expedition taking place May 4–9. These programs invite public participation in shaping commemorative landscapes rooted in African American heritage and memory.
